Spray polyurethane foam (SPF) insulation is a state-of-the-art insulation product that dramatically increases a home’s thermal performance. It can seal your home from air and moisture intrusion, strengthen building structure and provide thermal, air and vapor barriers. With a superior R-value and unmatched air sealing capabilities, it reduces air leakage while providing the best thermal performance of any insulation product on the market. Spray foam is one of the most versatile forms of insulation available. For many years spray foam insulation was used almost exclusively in commercial settings but recently that has begun to change, as word has spread about the many advantages of spray foam insulation more and more homeowners are choosing it over fiberglass.
HIGH R-VALUE
Spray polyurethane foam (SPF) has a thermal resistance R-value of approximately 6 per inch of installed insulation, making it one of the highest performance insulation products on the market. This means that your home will be warmer, and less drafty, even in conventionally framed construction.
AIR SEALING
SPF fills all the cracks and gaps within the cavities that it fills, avoiding the common problem of air leakage that plagues other types of insulation. This reduces drafts and prevents infiltration of moisture and harmful gases.
REDUCES MOISTURE AND MOLD
Because of the superior air sealing properties of SPF, moisture is less likely to enter your building once it’s been insulated with spray foam. This reduces the risk of mold, rot and structural damage that accompany water infiltration. Your entire house will be drier, healthier and more comfortable.
Spray foam insulation is impermeable to water and retains its insulating capabilities regardless of how wet it gets – making cleanup from a flood or burst pipe that much easier.
ADDS STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY
A house is only as strong as its frame and most forms of insulation do nothing to enhance the ability of the home to stand up to Mother Nature’s wrath. By grabbing hold of walls and floors by expanding into and filling cracks and crevices spray foam essentially becomes one with the surface you spray it on, adding its strength to that of the wall, floor or ceiling.
OPEN CELL FOAM AND CLOSED CELL FOAM
Closed cell foam is where the tiny foam cells are closed and packed together. They are filled with a gas, causing a greater density, have a higher insulating value and can act as an air and vapor barrier. This provides a superior air and moisture barrier, making it the most effective insulation available for energy performance. Closed cell foam typically weighs 2.0lbs/cubic foot.
Open cell foam is where the tiny cells of the foam are not completely closed. They are broken and air fills the open spaces of the foam, causing the open cell foam’s spongy feel. It is a more affordable option that provides an air sealing capacity and an R-value that supersedes nearly every other insulation product on the market. Open cell foam typically weighs 0.5lbs/cubic foot.
