Green Remodeling

Green remodeling is the improvement of an existing house using the principles of Building Science to help make the house more efficient, more durable and improve indoor air quality by using sustainable materials for renovation, disposing of waste materials through recycling and reusing materials wherever possible. Almost all homes, regardless of age, can be improved to save energy and create a healthier environment for occupants. Applying these building principles can make your home healthier, more comfortable, lower the energy bills, reduce maintenance, and lower your environmental impact.

Green remodeling may involve a number of home upgrades that we’re happy to tailor to your specific goals. While we typically focus on improving energy efficiency – as reducing energy consumption is generally the most significant step one can take towards a reduced environmental impact – we’re also happy to work with you towards achieving green building program certifications (IE: LEED for Homes, ENERGY STAR, WELL Building Standard, Living Building Challenge, Passivhaus, etc) through other green building improvements.

Have a home energy audit before considering any renovation work. There may be air leakage, insulation problems, inefficient and dangerous heating and air conditioning equipment, moisture problems, and many other problems that can be easily corrected before or during renovation work.
